Upcoming Hollywood Movies 2023

Recent years were anything but usual and have brought prosperity for most industries, including Hollywood movies. We saw Warner Bros’ decision to stream all their basic 2021 films simultaneously on HBO Max with mixed results while various studios employed virtual and theatrical strategies to reach viewers; it remains unlikely that this strategy will continue into 2023, though. We still look forward to some incredible flicks.

1. Magic Mike’s Last Dance (2023)

Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
Opening on: February 10, 2023

Steven Soderbergh masterfully captures Channing Tatum removing his clothes for one final scene in Magic Mike XXL, another remarkable sequel to 2015’s Magic Mike. Now Mike Lane (Tatum), having experienced hard times, receives an offer to travel to London with Salma Hayek’s Rich Lady to complete a request from her, which may or may not have ulterior motives.

2. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantomania

Directed by: Peyton Reed
Opening on: February 17, 2023

 3. Creed III

Directed by: Michael B. Jordan
Opening on: March 3, 2023

Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut with episode 0.33 of Rocky spinoff Creed franchise, in which he stars as Apollo Creed – Rocky’s son-nemesis-turned-buddy to Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad who will both play Adonis Creed’s adversaries in the ring and Adonis’ female partner and mother respectively. We don’t yet know exactly what will go down on this particular chapter but Jonathan Majors may take on Adonis’s opponent on this particular chapter while Tessa Thompson will play his female partner/mother roles respectively.

4. Scream 6

Directed by: Matt Bettinelli- Olpin Tyler Gillett
Opening on: March 10, 2023

Just days after 2023’s Scream began its run, word spread that there might be another film about its characters who made it through. After some time (just someday) had passed, it was announced that Hayden Panettiere may return to Scream 4 in her role of Kirby Reed from Scream 4. Neve Campbell announced she would no longer return due to feeling she was not compensated properly in this film’s context. We don’t yet know how the story will play out but with Sidney Prescott not in it anymore we expect less excitement!

5. Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Directed by: David F. Sandberg
Opening on: March 17, 2023

Zachary Levi’s Shazam returns with Asher Angel as Billy Batson (his teenage chubby counterpart). Together they’ve taken up their superpowers.

6. John Wick: Chapter 4

Directed by: Chad Stahelski
Opening on: March 24, 2023

Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves’ highly anticipated action movie will hit cinemas sometime around 2023 after being delayed due to COVID-19 virus outbreak. We don’t know much about it aside from John Wick being at odds with — and possibly perceived ineffective by — The High Table; Stahelski has stated on several occasions that there may now be no happy ending in Chapter 4, so our main character may face more consequences in later chapters.

7. Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Directed by: John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein
Opening on: March 31, 2023

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein of Game Night (The 2015’s Vacation) present an extravagant revamp of this beloved role-gambling game with an all-star cast composed of Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant and Bridgerton Super mega star Rege Jean Page – just to name a few!

8. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Directed by: Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic
Opening on: April 7, 2023

Chris Meledandri from Illumination (Despicable Me) and Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, are helping create this massive-display version. Chris Pratt will voice Goomba-stomping plumber. Upon entering Mushroom Kingdom he meets up with Keegan-Michael Key’s Toad for adventures together.

9. Evil Dead Rise

Directed by: Lee Cronin
Opening on: April 21, 2023

Original plans called for an HBO Max debut by fall 2023; now, however, the fifth film in the Evil Dead series will release sometime during the first quarter of 2023. While its relevance to previous installments such as 2013 remake remains undetermined, this installment could focus on sisters whose reunion is disturbed due to an electronic book which summons demons.

10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Directed by: James Gunn
Opening in: May 5, 2023

James Gunn’s sequel to his hit 2021 film The Suicide Squad will feature popular actor Chris Pratt alongside top quality performances from other actors and comical moments aplenty – we expect plenty! – which includes Will Poulter who made their first public appearance as Adam Warlock on the eve of Vol 2. We already know Will Poulter is set to star as Adam Warlock; Will was announced during Vol 2 production.

 11. Fast X

Directed by: Justin Lin
Opening on: May 19, 2023

This episode marks an essential chapter in one of the fastest and most compelling franchises available, set to return as its second part, expected sometime between 2024-2025. While details surrounding its plot remain undisclosed at present, we know it could mean Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and others from their family could return to doing what they want without interference from one another.

12. The Little Mermaid

Directed by: Rob Marshall
Opening on: May 26, 2023

This live-motion reimagining of Disney’s beloved fish-out-of-water classic will feature some recognizable actors – notably Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Javier Bardem as King Triton – along with new songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Pop singer Halle Bailey will don some fins in order to play Ariel.

13. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Directed by: Joaquim Dos Santos
Opening on: June 2, 2023

Oscar-winning animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was an extraordinary hit with both audiences and critics, becoming one of the most anticipated films of 2023 until we realized its release date was 2023! We know Issa Rae could return as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman while Jacob Johnson’s Peter Parker may return also.

14. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Directed by: Steven Caple Jr.
Opening on: June 9, 2023

After taking a step back in time with Bumblebee set in the 1980s, the Transformers franchise takes another journey into its history by transporting audiences back to mid-1990s where archaeologists find themselves engaged in an epic three-man fight among various groups of Transformers. Loosely inspired by The Beast Wars storyline and directed by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II), Peter Cullen returns as voice actor Optimus Prime, alongside Ron Perlman, Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback who join Ron Perlman’s voice characters as other members of its cast.

15. The Flash

Directed by: Andy Muschietti
Opening on: June 23, 2023

Multiverses will become an increasing focus in 2023 and this film is hoping to add its contribution as DC. We don’t know much about its plot, but Michael Keaton’s casting as Bruce Wayne gives a strong hint as to what may lie ahead; speculation suggests it might follow along the “Flashpoint” comic storyline with potential crossovers taking place along the way.

16. Indiana Jones 5

Directed by: James Mangold
Opening on: June 30, 2023

James Mangold (Walk the Line), previously best known for directing Walk the Line, takes over directing Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) with its notable cast such as Phoebe Waller Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen Shaunette Renee Wilson Antonio Banderas and Harrison Ford as director for this highly-anticipated sequel slated for release later this year.

17. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part One

Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie
Opening on: July 14, 2023

COVID regulations forced Mission: Impossible 8’s release backward, so its sequel will become M:I 7 in 2023 and M:I 8 by 2024 instead. However, when this sequel opens Tom Cruise could have played Ethan Hunt for over 27 years! What happened during that time period? Nonetheless, its cast features familiar faces such as Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames Rebecca Ferguson Henry Czerny Vanessa Kirby as well as Esai Morales playing one of its main antagonists – Esai Morales being its most formidable opponent yet.

18. Oppenheimer

Directed by: Christopher Nolan

Like all Nolan films, his IMAX shot must be seen on as large a display screen as possible.

19. The Marvels

Directed by: Nia DaCosta

20. Roosevelt

Directed by: Martin Scorsese
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio
Opening on: July 14, 2023

Martin Scorsese gives the legacy of 30th President of the US an epic Martin Scorsese treatment, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio (and whom else?) playing him during Great Depression and World War II administrations. Though first revealed back in 2017, very little is known since that initial introduction; therefore this date for its release should be treated with caution.
