Virat was born on the 5th November 1988 at New Delhi and attended Vishal Bharti Public school for academic study; by 1998 when he turned 9 he began classes at West Delhi Cricket Match Academy under coach Rajkumar Sharma’s supervision and guidance.

Virat Kohli first began playing cricket for Sumeet Dogra Institution within Vasundhara Enclave at that same time and transferred to Rescuer Convent at Paschim Vihar to play match practice at rescuer Convent during 9th section. By then he had already participated in his first Polly Umrigar Trophy competition with Delhi Under Five Teen team (Polly Umrigar Trophy 2002) as first director and then was appointed part of Delhi Under 17 Team during 2004’s Polly Umrigar Trophy competition and later part of 2003-2004 Vijay Merchant Trophy campaign as well.

Participating with Delhi Under 17s during 2004/05 Vijay Merchant Trophy, Kohli became the leading run-scorer across seven cricket matches for them, scoring 757 runs including two centuries. At 18, Kohli made his 1st class debut for Tamil Nadu against Karnataka; scoring only 10 runs despite this achievement and later attending his father’s burial directly after leaving cricket grounds.
