Harmanpreet Kaur, born March 8, 1989 in Moga, Punjab is currently leading all three formats of Indian women’s cricket. She first trained at Gian Jyoti School located 30 km from her birthplace as part of their developmental academy program. Harmanpreet received cricket coaching from Kamaldeesh Singh Sodhi at an early age. Her father, Harmandar Singh, taught her the game and served as her initial coach; Harmanpreet first played with boys when beginning her professional career; eventually making her first One Day International (ODI) debut against Pakistan women’s cricket team at Bradman Oval, Bowral in March 2009.
Harmanpreet made her international Twenty20 debut against England Women during the 2009 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 at County Ground, Taunton in June 2009. Due to injuries sustained by captain Mithali Raj and vice captain Jhulan Goswami at Asia Cup 2012 final match against Pakistan Women during final game she made debut as captain leading India to victory. Later that same year the Government of Maharashtra appointed him for Mumbai Division Western Railway by Sachin Tendulkar’s recommendation.

Harmanpreet needed to secure employment quickly in 2010, but the Punjab government denied her application to join the Punjab Police. Soon thereafter, Captain Amarinder Singh offered Harmanpreet part-time employment within the Police to make up for any wrongs caused by administration before her. - At the 2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup held at Bradman Oval in Bowral, she made her ODI debut against some of the leading Pakistani female cricketers at just 20 years old. During that match she bowled four innings and gave up 10 runs while also taking out Armaan Khan out of Amita Sharma with one wicket.
- At her first international Twenty20 appearance against England ladies at 2009 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 at County Ground, Taunton in June 2009 she scored 8 runs on seven balls before showing her ability to quickly set things moving by playing an explosive three innings for 33 against them at Mumbai T20I game played that year.
- India selected Jhulan Goswami to lead their women’s Twenty20 Asian Cup Final team after Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami were injured during 2012. She performed as an official against Pakistan women’s cricket as India managed 81 runs to claim the Asia Cup championship.
